Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. The actress was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. When her father passed away as a Carnival barker as a young girl, she had to help provide for the family by working as a cook and server. Ruth was a student and was poor throughout Boston Massachusetts in the tenement district. The school she was attending after only two years in order to pursue the profession of acting. Her path was not without obstacles. While in New York, her first assignment was to shoot stills for crime magazines, acting work she longed for was not available. Then, she worked as a hat check girl at an evening club, before deciding to call the shots and moving back to Boston. In Boston, she worked to make enough money by working as an usher during the day while at night performing in the New England Repertory Company, the first job she had that was steady. Drama studies led her to earn her degree at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
